Background
The idea behind Sophie´s Closet had been in Lotta´s mind for a long time but it was first in 2006 that the company and Sophie´s Closet came to life. The foundation of Sophie´s Closet rests upon thoughts and ideas concerning children and children´s clothing. It´s been built on our knowledge of fashion, fabrics and lifestyles.

"I have two daughters, six and four years old, and they just love when I bring home new clothes," says Lotta, Founder and Owner of Sophie´s Closet, Christina Sedwall, Unt, 4 May 2007.

The name Sophie´s Closet
The name Sophie´s Closet, came from Lotta´s oldest daugheter Sofia and involves a very special period when Sofia was little.

"We were always running around to coffe shops and cute little boutiques. My friends and I were always discussing children and clothing and got into the habit of searching for different colors, patterns and fabrics. We influenced each other and got impressions from our surroundings. All of this together made us start to develop our very own particular styles..." Sophie´s Closet is based on the style developed from this particular period and the carefully selected pieces of clothing also represents Sofia´s own.

Prices, combinations and colors...
Then, and now, the primary concern was the pieces, the combinations, fabrics and patterns. Do children clothing really need to be divided up into different categories such as boy and girl, cute and cool etcetera? Why can´t their clothing be all of these things through different combinations of colors, fabrics and accessories? Do clothes really need to be boring in order to be practical or delicate just because they are meant for formal wear?Does a child really need to look a certain way at daycare and another if going to a party? These are the questions we have focused on in the process of developing Sophie´s Closet.
